SYMPOSIUM PREPARATIONS

The goal of this week was to progress further with getting interviews; unfortunately, this wasn't quite accomplished, although progress was made. In addition, another research assessment was finished and further steps were taken to begin a digital portfolio ready for publishing online. Finally, the business symposium is right around the corner (on Wednesday, October 3) which means that a few things have had to be done in preparation.

In regards to getting an interview, there was a possible interview with Professor Tom Mayo that was tentatively scheduled for Friday. However, I never heard back about a specific time, even after emailing a reminder. I will, of course, try calling again, but this was a little disappointing as it seemed like it was going to come together and then just, didn’t. Additional steps to take include finding more contacts, calling more professionals, and following up with the professionals that have already been contacted.

Theoretically, the business symposium should also provide a jumpstart to getting interviews. Last year I was able to get quite a few contacts through professionals met at the symposium, and because last year provided some experience I should be able to find even more professionals willing to share contacts and discuss issues relevant to medical ethics. My folio is now set up with five resumes (one color) and I have a suit. Unlike last year the suit will be a darker, more professional color. One goal for the symposium this year, beyond getting contacts for interviews, is making a better impression on professionals. Last year the professionals I talked with said I didn't have very much personality, so I will try to inject some more into the conversations this year.

The final thing that took a lot of my attention this week was the digital portfolio. At the moment, I actually have two websites in the process of being made because I’m having a hard time making different decisions relating to layout and colors. Obviously, deciding now would be ideal, but I may need to keep going on both sites until one becomes a clear winner. Getting feedback from peers will also be helpful.

In the coming week a few deadlines will need to be met; another assessment and the smart goals. These should be relatively straightforward and the assessment will actually be, hopefully, the last research assessment done in a while. Additionally, the business symposium is Wednesday which is actually very exciting and was one of my favorite events last year. The final task will be getting one of the digital portfolios completely up to date as that’s due next Monday.
