DEBATES AND ASSESSMENTS

This week had only one assignment due, but next week there are quite a few assignments that need to be done. Therefore, this week was spent doing both this week's assignment and getting a head start on next week’s.

The assessment was somewhat of a big deal because it will be the first in a series of related assessments over highly debated topics relating to medical ethics. The topic for this week's assessment was abortion and healthcare workers; whose rights come first, the patients or doctors? The assessment allowed me to explore my own viewpoints as well as the viewpoints of more established ethicists via gale database resources in context. Next week’s assessment might be interesting to do over something more cutting edge like the usage of stem cells or cloning.

Another assignment I worked on this week is the contact log. Because medical ethics is a somewhat undefined field of study, it's been a bit difficult to search directly for “ethicists in the area”. However, a few medical malpractice lawyers have now been added to the contact log who will hopefully be able to share some unique insights, and more professionals will hopefully be added next week.

Next week will need to focus on finishing the contact log and beginning cold calls based on the log. Hopefully I will start to get interviews and thereby increase my scope of topics for my assessments to include debate topics I might not have previously thought about.
