CAREER OUTLOOK RESEARCH

The second week of ISM was a little less eventful, as we began more research and fewer assignments. The first research assessment was completed this week, and introductory speeches were finally finished up.

The first research assessment was the career outlook assessment to help get an understanding of this year's chosen topic (medical ethics). In ISM 1, a career outlook assessment was also completed, so for the ISM 2 instead of a career outlook, a more “what is medical research” assessment was completed. Medical ethics is a very unorthodox career which means that research on career outlook is very difficult because there are very few standards in the industry. Instead, the research assessment answered questions like “what is medical ethics”, and “what use is medical ethics and to who”. This assessment is very helpful because it allows and into into understanding the topic of choice for the rest of the year.

Introductory presentations were also finished which offered a unique and nice chance to see others presentations and learn from them. The presentations offered insights into introductions (somethings which is difficult for me) and listening to critiques others received was also a helpful opportunity.

Next week will mean the beginning of cold calls. In order to do this, a contact log will need to be begun so that the names and information of professionals can be input. Professionals that would be beneficial to include in the contact log include lawyers, professors, doctors, and medical researchers. Actually, any medical professional would probably be able to offer some unique insight, so the options are plentiful. This means that the options will have to narrowed down in order to decide what will be most conducive to the work that will be done by me in ISM this year.
