Taking Care of Business

12/4/17 - 12/10/17

As we near the winter break, more and more deadlines are making their way to the forefront. I had a few main goals this week, as well as an observational interview, which allowed me to try to get ahead of the workload. One of the main things I took care of this week was my digital portfolio, but I also continued work on my original work. By Christmas break, I need a few things to be done; I need a mentor, I need to start data collection for my original work, and I need to publish my digital portfolio.

My mentor is probably the issue looming largest in my mind. I had hoped to ask Dr. Phillips this week when I went in to meet her lab and observe a lab meeting. Unfortunately, she seemed busy and I decided to wait to do it over phone. I tried calling Friday, but there was no answer on either her lab or office phone, so I will have to try again on Monday. The observational interview was actually very insightful, however, and meeting with Dr. Phillip’s lab staff to learn a bit more about their research further convinced me I would enjoy having dr. Phillips as a menor.

I also need to get my original work into motion., Because i have to do data collection, I will probably need to get started as soon as possible so that I can collect the broadest range of information as possible. My form is basically done, although I would like someone to check over my explanation paragraph of what the data survey is to make sure no laws are being violated. I will get the data survey out as soon as that is done.

Finally, I worked this week on getting my digital portfolio up to date and aesthetically pleasing. I actually had most of the information already linked, but I had to add things like my resume and information about the ISM program. I also wanted to change a lot of things about the design and the layout because I wasn’t happy with the way it turned out. I think the digital portfolio should be done soon, but I really want it to be up to my standards before I publish it.
