Countdown to showcase

1/8/18 - 1/15/18

Over the past week I finished both my research and physical portfolio, completed my survey analysis for my original work, and completed my display board. I had some other stuff going on this past week, like a BPA competition, but I was able to get enough done that I feel ready for the research showcase and original work due date this coming week.

The portfolios are completely done, which has been very nice because I’ve now been able to show people my digital portfolio and it is listed on the ISM website if anyone wants to see it. I believe I will have to go back and proofread some of the weekly reports, as I noticed a few typos. In addition, I just got a grade back for one of my assessments and I think I will need to go back and review what I have written to better fit the rubric.

My original work is also progressing nicely. The survey analysis is completely done and I have compiled all the results into one page of neat charts and graphs. I will now begin my plan to encourage more people to be vaccinated. Excitingly, it is a particularly bad year for the flu. Many people have already died, although most of them had, admittedly, weak immune systems. However, this means that there is a greater need for more people to be vaccinated, and I believe I can find a way to make this possible.

Finally, my display board is almost finished. I was having trouble incorporating the coral color, but I finally completed this with the matting of several pictures. I also figured out how to include a  QR code for my digital portfolio, which I think will be very nice for people to see my website. I am including pictures of my mentors, but I don’t have any pictures with them right now, so their pictures will need to replaced eventually. I also included the charts and graphs from my original work, because I think they are a very good visual representation of the results of my original work. Right now, I just need to do a bit more glueing and my display board should be good to go.

I am very much looking forward to the coming week. I think the research showcase will be a lot of fun and will offer a large amount of opportunities to network and show off what I have learned. I am also excited to turn in my original work and have it done. Finally, I will also begin to start to get in contact with my mentors, as they told me to begin scheduling times to meet with them on January 15th. I will need to set up an interview as soon as possible with Dr. Wetzel so that I can meet her and get to know her a little bit. I also need to begin talking to them about a final product that they could help me with. I am thinking about doing something with drugs or parasitology.
