Opioid addiction can ruin lives. No one chooses to become addicted, but the effects are devastating, and with opioids the process of becoming addicted is quick and non-discriminatory. Over the past two decades, opioid dependence and addiction rates have skyrocketed. America’s healthcare industry is partially to blame for the quickly rising rates of opioid addiction and dependence. In order to combat this crisis, one of the leading combatants therefore needs to be the healthcare industry.

THE GOAL

The goal of this study is to explore the issues and history surrounding the opioid crisis and what can be done to alleviate the problem. Prevention and treatment, as well as what those two processes entail, will be discussed as possible solutions.
